Huaqing Hot Spring is located at the northern foot of Mount Li of Lintong, 30 km to the east of Xi’an. As a well-known hot spring resort in China, it has thermal water flowing continuously in accordance with the alternations of China travel agents the sun and the moon. Huaqing Hot Springs are located 35 kilometers east of Xian city at the foot of the Lishan Mountain in a large park where there are a number of public baths and some modern palaces built in the Tang style.The hot springs, rich in minerals, were highly regarded more than 3000 years ago. The Tang Emperor Xuanzong often spent the winter here in the company of his favorite concubine, Yang Guifei. The entering gate bears the inscription Huaqing Chi′ by Guo Moruo, a noted litterateur in China. There are numerous classical style buildings at the site and many frescoes decorate the walls here. As the story of Yang Guifei, a concubine, is very popular with the Chinese, it is usually very busy.The new baths constructed in 1956 include one called the Bath of Yang Guifei. Today, visitors can bathe in the 43 degree Celsius water.

There are still public bathhouses here, though you are better off exploring the forested areas of the park, or hiking up to the Taoist temple on Black Horses Mountaiin(Li Shan). Huaqing Hot Spring is located at the foot of the Lishan Mountain, a branch range of the Qinling Ranges, and stands 1,256 meters high. It is covered with pines and cypresses, looking very much like a dark green galloping horse from a long distance. So it has the name of the Lishan Mountain (Li means a black horse).

The Tang dynasty Emperor Xuan Zong and his favorite lady, Yang Gui Fei used to make their home at Frost China travel Drifting Hall in winter days. When winter came, snowflakes were floating in the air, and everything in sight was white. However, they came into thaw immediately in front of the hall. It owed a great deal to the warm vapor rising out of the hot spring. This is the Frost Drifting Hall that greets us today.
